my first laptop billboard

When my sister and her husband were visiting a few years back, and we were living in Portland, Oregon, we had the opportunity to visit a small town in Washington State known for antiques stores.  We were driving back from Seattle on a Sunday morning, and nothing in town was open yet, so we decided to just walk around and look in the antiques stores' windows to figure out which ones we might want to visit once they opened around noon.

I saw this sign in the window.  I don't think the sign was antique.  It looked like the store had antiques and "neat stuff."  But the saying was so priceless that we laughed about it and referred to it all the way home.  It became a bit of a catch phrase for us for a while, and we still use it in appropriate situations.

So, voila, here is the very first of what was to become my laptop billboards:

Put on your big girl panties and deal with it.

I'm sure when the right time comes to use this catchy little phrase and mean it, you'll know.

be careful how you treat the hired help

We have a great little hamburger place in Old Town called Wimpy's.  They do hamburgers and fries and nothing else.  Consequently, their hamburgers and fries are really wonderful.

It's a family operation owned by the daughter, with Dad as the order-taker and cashier, and Mom is the one who puts the orders together and brings them to your table.  They are the most pleasant and cheerful people you'll ever meet, cute as a button, if I may call them that.

So I was very surprised to go in one day and find this sign framed and standing on the counter.  I promptly went home and put it on my laptop as a billboard.

If you're grouchy or irritable or just plain mean, there will be a $10 charge for putting up with you.

Apparently they had a tough week with a run of surly customers.  Who could possibly be mean to these lovely people?

So be careful how you treat that person behind the counter--he may zap you with a $10 surcharge.

first in a series--laptop billboards

Okay, so I'm a little slow.  I've been doing this for about three four years, but real computer geeks have been doing it for much longer--putting stuff on the top of their laptop so when they're working on it, it becomes a billboard to anyone looking at them.

Some people have lots of stuff there, things like happy face stickers, photos, and little signs that say "Bill Gates is a prick."  I choose to have my laptop billboard be like me--neat and sparing.  One important message at a time for maximum effectiveness.

I realized that this is fodder for a whole new category and a series of posts as I come across great quotes and change my billboard.

So, here it is, the first in the series.  Ladies and gentlemen, for your amusement and further pondering:

Never argue with an idiot; they'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

You're welcome.
